The Simple Woman's Daybook ~ Wednesday, January 25th (10:20 p.m.)

Welcome new followers!  So happy you are here!

The Simple Woman’s Daybook

Outside my window...  ~  dark, most likely  cloudy, misting.  It rained today and was cooler at 43, than the warm temps we have been enjoying the last few weeks.  Tomorrow, the forecast calls for sunshine and temps back in the 60’s.  It has been such an unusual January.

I am thinking... ~ that sometimes life isn’t fair.

I am thankful for...  ~ healthy children and grandchildren.

I am wearing...  ~ pajama bottoms and an old stretched out T-shirt that has seen better days.

I am creating… ~ if what I am creating in my head counts, I am working on more projects than I can count.  In the physical, I’m having difficulty in keeping up.  I am still working on sorting and organizing, so you could say I am creating an organized and orderly home.  However, that seems to be a never ending job!

From the learning rooms... ~ we are working mostly on the basics, with more being done on the computer, which gives me a little more time for sorting and organizing.  I was reading on a message board and you know, everyone has an opinion about homeschooling.  Let me say, I am the first to admit, I can be a little too lax at times.  But the comment was made, “There is very little bullying going on in the homeschool environment.”
Sometimes we overlook the true blessings…. the ones that are so obvious.  My boys do not fear what another student may say or do as in the case of bullying.  And when we are out in a setting where they notice someone being bullied, they are appalled that people act that way.
I am thankful…. ~ small things, but so important.

I am remembering… ~ special moments with my sweet guy!

I am praying … ~ for family members, for some very special prayer requests and for our country and the country of Israel.

I am going...  ~ planning a short getaway this spring to visit my aunt, my mom’s sister.  I think she will be 91 in April.  Looking forward to spending some time with her.

I am currently reading...  ~ right now I am not reading much, other than my Bible and seed catalogs.  I did read two books earlier (not sure if it was during the last part of December or the first part of January).  One was by Karen Kingsbury and I’m trying to remember the other one….
Ah well, it was good, but right now I am drawing a complete blank! ;)
I am hoping...  ~ that one day, I’ll wake up and Blogger will have all the wrinkles ironed out and I will be able to comment on other blogs…. all blogs!

I am looking forward to... ~ Spring!  I’m looking forward to new farm babies and wondering how many goat kids we will have.  Looking forward to walk barefoot in the warm, fresh tilled, garden.  Like I said, SPRING!

On my mind...  ~ Gabby (Gabrielle Chenae), or granddaughter # 1.  She is 12 today!

Noticing that... ~ we need to do some major repairs on the house or get in gear with our building plan.

From the kitchen...  ~  since I have been doing the Sacrificial Diet, the kitchen hasn’t been quite so busy.  I did prepare a good dinner tonight.
Chicken fried steak ~ mashed potatoes ~ gravy and salad
Homemade oatmeal cookies
(I had some dough in the freezer, left from the holidays)

Hubby and boys were happy!
Around the house...  ~ I’m making progress…. some days, I think I am probably the only one who notices.

One of my favorite things… A warm cozy quilt that smells like it just came off the clothesline, but feels like it just came out of the dryer!!

A picture to share… ~

I think I found this on Pinterest.  Doesn't it scream
SPRING!

Day 19 and The Simple Woman's Daybook

Day 19
of Our 65 Day Journey!

Isn't this a gorgeous time of year?!!!

If you didn't come by yesterday....be sure a scroll down!  Angela blessed us with a guest post!

The Simple Woman’s Daybook

Outside my window...  ~  It’s dark, a little cool, and cloudy.  A fine mist is falling.

I am thinking...  ~ the preparations for Thanksgiving.

I am thankful for...  ~ In keeping with the Thirty Days of Thanks….
Monday ~ (I got so excited about Angela being my guest, I forgot to post what I was thankful for)….so, I am thankful for all the natural beauty God has placed around us.
Tuesday ~ (today) I am thankful for the freedom we have in Christ Jesus.

I am wearing...  ~ Tan slacks, a rose colored top and *surprise* shoes!
Well, sometimes you have to get out and go to the grocery store.

I am creating... ~ An orderly home, an orderly life.  There is MUCH work to be done, but it is up to me.

From the learning rooms... ~ The boys have been working on individual projects and I have been learning a few new things, too!

I am remembering… ~ What it was like to wade in the creek on warmer days.

I am praying ~ For a good friend who is dealing with (too) many family issues, for our country and for Israel.

I am going...  ~To attempt some new craft projects.

I am currently reading...  ~ I’m still reading Mother Warriors by Jenny McCarthy, about the fight to overcome Autism.  I want something really good to read…..I’ve been looking, trying to decide what to order.  I usually have at least a ½ dozen books stashed away, for days that are better spent inside with a warm cup of something yummy to drink .  This year I’ve let the days slip up on me. ;)

I am hoping...  ~ to find time to get a pedicure …soon!

I am looking forward to...~ the smell of turkey filling the house!

On my mind...  ~ my kids

Noticing that...  the boys are going to need new boots

From the kitchen...  ~ Fresh bread is rising and I’ll be putting a pot roast on to cook in a few hours.  (I think I’ll bake the boys (and Honey hunk) a pan of cinnamon rolls.)  Later, we’ll roast some pumpkin seeds.

Around the house...  ~ I’m making progress….some days, I think I am probably the only one who notices.

One of my favorite things… A warm cozy quilt that smells like it just came off the clothesline.

A picture to share… ~

Quote of the Week… ~

"The longings of your heart are not incidental, they are critical messages. The desires of your heart are not to be ignored, they are to be consulted. As the wind turns the weather vane, so God uses your passions to turn your life. God is too gracious to ask you to do something you hate." ~Max Lucado ~ Just Like Jesus.

Taking A Break....The Simple Woman's Daybook

This is Day 12
(Be sure and read about Linda's giveaway at the bottom of the post!!)

of our 65 Day Journey, however I am taking a break and doing the

Simple Woman's Daybook
It helps keep me "centered".

Outside my window...  ~ It is cool, wet and cloudy.  The leaves are so pretty with their brilliant colors, but much more weather like last night and they will all be gone.

I am thinking...  ~ Why is it so difficult to adjust to the time change?  It doesn’t seem to matter which way it changes, it still takes a few days for me to adjust.

I am thankful for...  ~ Life….mercy & goodness!

I am wearing...  ~ Old, comfortable clothes….barefoot

always, barefoot (some things never  change, people)

I am creating... ~ A place of refuge for my family, where Yeshua regins and peace is the norm.

From the learning rooms... ~ The boys are busy with math & history.  I think we are going to get really serious about learning Hebrew after the holidays.  A friend of mine gave me a link to a site that has some wonderful teachings…FREE!  I am very excited!

I am remembering… ~ Holidays when I was young, the family of my youth.  I miss them, but I realize I am blessed with the large family I always wanted….still, parents, aunts and uncles are missed!

I am praying … ~ For a good friend and for our troops around the globe and peace for Jerusalem!

I am going...  ~ To try and get a little more organized and try to follow doctor’s orders.  (You can stop laughing now!)

I am wondering... ~ What our weather will be like over the next few days.

I am currently reading...  ~ Mother Warriors by Jenny McCarthy.  It is about the fight to overcome Autism.

I am hoping...  ~ For a mild winter, maybe one or two snows…enough to cut down on the ticks, fleas and mosquitoes …..snap a few pictures….and then warm back up!  It is so much easier with animals, guys!!!

I am looking forward to...~ Some time alone with Honey-hunk!

On my mind...  ~ Our crazy weather….where else can you have an earthquake, tornadoes, and flooding all in less that 12 hours?

Noticing that...   ~ The days (or daylight hours) are already getting noticeably shorter.

From the kitchen...  ~  Meatloaf for tonight, along with baked sweet potatoes, coleslaw, cornbread.  (And mac & cheese for the kids.)

Around the house...  ~ Laundry, always laundry!

One of my favorite things… Watching old movies with honey-hunk and the boys!  This is the best time of year for movie watching and enjoying popcorn.

(We have been watching lots of old John Wayne movies.  Love the ones that Maureen O’Hara co-stars in!!!)

Such fun!

A picture to share… ~

The deer are so plentiful this year!

Thirty Days of Thanks!

Monday – I am so thankful for my children and grandchildren.  I always wanted a large family.  God heard my cries and HE blessed me!

Tuesday – I am thankful we are fortunate to live in the country!  When we married, honey-hunk said he would live in a tent in the country before he would live in town.  Well, beside that being his “rather” we did live in “town” a time or two, but we have been blessed to live and raise our family in the country.  We’ve raised all kinds of animals, played in the creek together, gone on spare of the moment picnics, rode ATV’s, slept under the stars, gardened side by side, fished, hunted and sat in the moonlight!  God has been gracious toward us.

Join Shawn for Thirty Days of Thanks!

I’m still having difficulty “commenting”.  So…..

Gina, I’m a POKES fan too!  I am always for OU, until they play the Cowboys!  Gotta love OSU!  The picture you posted of the “woods” was beautiful!

Beth77, you always say the most encouraging things!  Love when you come to visit!

Sixteen Days to Thanksgiving!!!
I chopped up the celery and onion for the dressing this morning while doing the same for the meatloaf.  So, celery and onion are now in the freezer along with part of the bread for the dressing.

One more thing to mark off the “list”!

Welcome new followers!  It is wonderful you are here!!!

My "buddy" Linda at Prairie Flower Farm is joining with Gooseberry Patch for a fabulous giveaway!!!  Be sure and go sign up!  Tell her the Prairie Maid  sent you! ;)  Linda's giveaways are always fun!!!  Plus she has a new recipe posted that looks so yum and easy!!!  Chocolate Cherry Cordial Cupcakes!
(Hide the scales, these look so good!!!)

May God be gracious to you and bless you; may He make His countenance shine upon you forever; that Your way be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.

Blessings,
Cheryl

P.S.  ~ The next time I post, I'll have a couple of recipes to share!

The Simple Woman's Daybook ~ Tuesday, August 16th

The Simple Woman’s Daybook

Outside my window...  dark, cloudy and lightning.  Praying for rain.

I am thinking...  ~ about some old friends I recently heard from.  It blessed my heart.

I am thankful for...  ~ the rain we have received!

I am wearing...  ~ old, comfortable clothes….barefoot
always, barefoot (some things just don’t change, people)

I am remembering… ~ crazy things!

I am praying … ~ for a friend and for our troops around the globe.  This is a difficult time for them, I’m sure.

I am going...  ~ to try and get a little more organized and try to follow doctor’s orders.

I am currently reading...  ~ I just finished Mine Is the Night by Liz Curtis Higgs.  It is a sequel to Here Burns My Candle and it is the best book I have ever read!  Loved it.
(It is loosely based on the story of Ruth.)

I am hoping...  ~ for an early and long autumn.

On my mind...  ~ Ann Voskamp’s blog, A Holy Experience, she had a beautiful post yesterday about her son.  It is certainly worth your time to check it out.

Noticing that...   ~ the days (or daylight hours) are already getting noticeably shorter.

From the kitchen...  ~ going to be putting okra and squash in the freezer today.

Around the house...  ~ laundry, always laundry!

From the learning room ~ getting ready for the new school year.  For now, the boys are learning how to operate some new equipment and how to build and maintain a pond.  (I love it when honey-hunk does the teaching and I get to sit back and learn too!)

One of my favorite things…  Lemon Meringue Pie.  I’m going to make honey-hunk one this week, along with his favorite meal ~ meatloaf with lots of homegrown veggies and cornbread.

Simple Woman's Daybook ~ July 26th, Summer Thoughts, A to Z

Hello, everyone!  How are you today?
We received a little rain on Sunday night, enough to benefit the grass and hopefully enough to give the pasture a boost.  The temp also dropped to the 90's for yesterday (Monday)....hey, don't laugh...Sunday it was 110 degrees!
Welcome to you who are new.  Love having you come by, the more often, the better!!!

Photobucket

This is the last day for Katharine's meme,
Summer Thoughts, A to Z.  It has been much fun, plus I now have
26 memory verses ready for when school starts
(which won't be long)!

And thanks to our host, it has been a wonderful journey!
"Zion heard, and was glad;
and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O LORD."
 Psalms 97:8

I've been thinking about it for a few days now and realize how much I have missed doing the Daybook!  It is one of those things, that helps me focus on what is important and enjoy the ordinary splendor God places in our "everyday" lives.
Won't you join me?
The Simple Woman’s Daybook

Outside my window...  ~ partly cloudy, warm, sticky and dark.

I am pondering... ~ something a good friend asked me earlier, "When you look into the night sky and see HIS handiwork, it seems we can look straight into Heaven's living room.  If we could, what would you see?"

I am thankful for...  ~the sweet smell of rain, I miss it, but for a little while Sunday evening, it came for a visit.

I am wearing...  ~ old, comfortable clothes….barefoot
always, barefoot (some things just don’t change, people)

I am remembering… ~Some of the fun stuff I want to do with the boys before summer is over.

I am praying … ~ for my family, for you and your families and for our country.

I am going...  ~ to the doctor on Friday.  Not my cup of tea.
(I haven't been in about 6 or 7 years... at least not to a medical doctor.)
I am currently reading...  ~ my Bible and I just received
Mine Is the Night
by Liz Curtis Higgs.  I can't wait to get started!  It's the sequel to Here Burns My Candle and
I have been waiting patiently for over a year!
From the learning room... ~ beginning to pull stuff together for another school year, marveling at how much the boys have grown this summer.

I am hoping...  ~ to finish some loose ends.  Once they are done, I would like to do some painting and switching around.

On my mind...  ~ family

Noticing that...   ~ while I enjoy the easy flow of summer days,  I haven't enjoyed the high temps we have experienced this year.

From the kitchen...  ~ grape jelly!

Around the house...  ~ I am working on creating a more comfortable nest, getting ready for fall, working with ideas on how I can point my family toward Yeshua in the everyday.

One of my favorite things… ~ sweet iced tea or lemonade

A picture to share… ~

Due to the lack of rain and the high temps, I've missed the wildflowers this summer.
So here are some Texas Bluebonnets to enjoy!

The Simple Woman's Daybook ~ Tuesday, May 31st

 The Simple Woman’s Daybook

Outside my window...  partly cloudy, warm and sticky – signs of summer just around the corner.

I am thinking...  ~ God makes better plans than I do.  (When will I learn?)

I am thankful for...  ~ home

I am wearing...  ~ old, comfortable clothes….barefoot
always, barefoot (some things just don’t change, people)

I am remembering… ~ a vision I had several years back.  Hoping to share it with you soon.

I am praying … ~ instead of what I am praying for, I want to share the following with you.  I just rec’d this from the young man’s mother.  The young man was/is in the process of returning from Afghanistan.  We have been praying for *B* to be kept safe and for God to surround him with angels.

(Because some people have difficulty praying, the following has been my specific prayer.  My prayer isn’t anything special, just what was on my heart.  Please don’t think I am trying to take credit….all the credit goes to My Heavenly Father and to this young man’s mother and all those who took the time to pray.)

Father, may You cover *B* with Your wings as You deliver him home to his family. May Your angels encamp round about *B* and may the Holy Spirit guide him. Abba, we say thank You for keeping *B* safe! May his visit be blessed and may there be great joy in the *G* home. In the Name of Yeshua, Amen.

Now, here is a copy of the message I just received from his mother.  This will make you proud to be an American.

Oh, my what wonderful prayer partners you all are!!!
Just got a mail from *B*, he's in Dallas..I just have to share with you all:

Some parts of America still work!

So get this! I love Dallas even more! the USO here hooked me up with free sandwich, drink, and then got me permission to go to the American Airlines Ambassadors Club where they gave me towels, soap, and a clean shower to use! Wowzers im almost human again!

Oh and they gave me free internet, which im using now to email you, while sitting nice leather chair in front of a big screen TV (after my shower). Wow

If i get the choice in the future, and if im paying for a flight, it will be American Airlines for sure.

Its good to be in America again,

Love you all,

*B*

(*J* now)..he said he hadn't been able to shower..had to hitch-hike to catch up with the group that were already 2 days ahead of him..so he was hot, chaffed and sweaty and had not eaten. The folks in Dallas were lined up to welcome the soldiers home and he was amazed at how each person..even middle school kids were honestly happy to greet them!!

God knows we don't deserve this..what love!!!

Can you hear the love and excitement in her voice?  I just wanted to share that with you.
I am going...  ~ to be more honest with myself

I am currently reading...  ~ my Bible

I am hoping...  ~ I can do more to help others.

On my mind...  ~ family

Noticing that...   ~ adults (that would be me) are more difficult to teach than children

From the kitchen...  ~ waiting for inspiration

Around the house...  ~ I rather be in the garden

One of my favorite things… lilacs

A picture to share… ~

The Simple Woman’s Daybook ~ May 17th & "Stuff"

 Welcome!
I am glad you had a few minutes to drop by.  It is always good to *see* you! However, I should warn you, it has been an unusual evening.
Maybe I should back up…..yesterday, Monday, was an awesome day….gorgeous, I felt good, the kids were…well, kids.

But this evening, I seem to keep running into news that isn’t good….friends with health issues, families that are hurting, and those
in need.
These are trying times for many.
My heart is heavy.
I want to help.
I’m afraid my Daybook post reflects this, my mood.
But I know the ONE who wrote the book, the One who designed all things.  While my heart is heavy, I am secure in HIS Word. He said, He would never leave or forsake us ~ I know this is true.  In HIM there is hope,
always ~ HOPE.

The Simple Woman’s Daybook

Outside my window...  it is night, clear as crystal (as they say) with a beautiful, bright, full moon.  I would love to go down to the river tonight, just to sit and watch the moon’s reflection dance on the water.

I am thinking...  ~ there is a lot of sickness and sadness in our fallen world.

I am thankful for...  ~ HIM who first loved me.

I am wearing...  ~ old, comfortable clothes….barefoot
always, barefoot.

I am remembering...  ~ happy times
Trying to remember… ~ when life became complicated

I am praying … ~ for many special people and friends.
(see the sidebar for a partial list)

I am going...  ~ to try to be more diligent in my prayer time.

I am currently reading...  ~ my Bible, online and a devotional I rec’d from a friend, who was kind enough to share

I am hoping...  ~ I can do more to help others.

On my mind...  ~ those that are hurting

Noticing that...   ~ I seemed to have gotten sidetracked on my cleaning….again.

Pondering these words…

“The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”  I love this scripture.  It’s Zephaniah 3:17
Isn’t it beautiful?!

From the kitchen...  ~ Tuesday evening:  meatloaf, fresh baked bread

Around the house...  ~ I need to de-clutter, simplify

One of my favorite things… ~ the smell of fresh baked bread

A picture to share… ~

Quote of the Week… ~
“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”  Laurie

May your spring be filled with the gift of new life, sweet smells and sunny days.

May God be gracious to you and bless you; may He make His countenance shine upon you forever; that Your way be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.

Hey, just so you know I'm not totally depressed, here is another photo....one that will make you smile.
Blessings and happy trails,
Cheryl
